Thinner, Lighter Lenses

Thinner, lighter lenses for your comfort

The choice is increasing all the time...

Modern lenses come in a variety of Refractive Index's. Ranging from standard plastic (1.49) to Highest index glass (1.9). In simple terms the higher the number the thinner and flatter the finished lens will be.

There are now thin, thinner, and thinnest in both plastic and glass making lenses not only thinner but also lighter, more comfortable and much better looking.

Lenses can also be designed so that the front surface has an aspheric design, which is computer generated surface making the lens flatter and giving a thinner more cosmetic appearance.

The lens material that is best for you will depend not only on your prescription, but also the size and shape of your chosen frame, and our opticians will help you choose so that you get the best results at the best price. Sometime there is little gained by going for the thinnest (and more expensive) material.

Greater protection and safety

Another advantage of high index materials is that they are substantially harder than regular lenses, giving greater protection and safety, but also as they are harder then can actually be manufacturer with a thinner minimum thickness and still be stronger than regular lenses.

Most people will put a lot of care into choosing frames that look good. It is only recently that they have come to see that the lens is every bit as important in creating the look and style.
