Lenses at Lesley Arkin Optometrist

All of our varifocals (progressive lenses) are guaranteed to ensure you have the lenses that are easiest to adapt to...

Once you get to the stage when you need different prescriptions for looking at different distances we will often recommend varifocal lenses, which are usually more suitable for today's busy life style than either separate pairs of spectacles or bifocals. We will take time explaining the differences between the designs and brands, and we have a varifocal demonstrator so that you can visualise how the lenses work. We only recommend varifocals that give excellent visual performance over a wide area and are designed to satisfy your particular needs, so that you can easily and quickly adapt to your new prescription.

Why do I need Varifocal Lenses?

Progressive lenses are designed for presbyopia, which usually begins to affect us in our forties. As our eyes mature, the nearest point of vision that we can focus on becomes further away and so reading and other near vision activities become more difficult, (humorously called "the long arm syndrome"). Varifocal lenses correct the effects of presbyopia with a gradual change in prescription from distance to near vision, restoring your natural vision.

Varifocals sometimes have a poor reputation for being difficult to adapt to.

This is because varifocals can significantly vary in quality, performance and price. They need to be fitted with precision into a suitable spectacle frame. A poor lens design fitted incorrectly will give distortions, blurred vision and eyestrain.

At Lesley Arkin Optometrist we only use reputable brands and designs. We make sure that you choose spectacle frames suitable for your varifocals; and by carefully measuring and setting the lenses very precisely in the frames to ensure you are looking exactly through the correct part of the lens so that you can wear them comfortably and successfully.

The Zeiss collection of varifocal lenses combines the latest technology with genuine commitment to giving you excellent vision and comfort.

There are many different designs of varifocals and new improved designs being developed all the time. We are particularly excited with the revolutionary Zeiss Gradal Individual® FrameFit TM
progressive lenses. Our optician can now order these lenses so that they are computed and tailored precisely to your individual prescription, fitting measurements, and frame details.

Varifocal problem solving

We have developed a reputation for "problem solving" and find that even new patients, who have previously not managed with varifocals, are satisfied when they are dispensed to our accurate specifications. Well designed, correctly fitted varifocals will give natural comfortable vision. Patients are sometimes initially reluctant to invest in a "quality" pair of varifocals but in hindsight often wish they had tried them the first time around.

Your guarantee

We are so confident about our varifocals that all varifocals lenses dispensed by Lesley Arkin Optometrist have an 'adaptation' guarantee, which means that if you cannot adapt to your progressive lenses within 30 days from collection, Lesley Arkin Optometrist will give you a suitable replacement.
