How To Choose Your Sunglasses

Which sunglasses should I choose?

You wouldn't go out into the sun without protecting your skin with cream... In the same way you need to protect your eyes need full UV protection whether you need a prescription or not.

At Lesley Arkin Optometrist we make it easy for you to protect your eyes with our unlimited choice of lenses, tint colours and sunglass frames, all with full UV protection - suitable for driving, for all different sports or for just lying on the beach... there are endless possibilities and our opticians will be able to guide you and help you choose the pair that is both comfortable to wear and satisfies your visual needs. Your choice depends on:

  • Which type of frame?
  • Your prescription.
  • Which tint colour?
  • What you are using your sunglasses for?

Which type of frame?

You'll find the latest seasons styles including exclusive new designer sunglasses such as Pucci, Fendi, Lulu Guinness, Shanhai Tang, and Karl Lagerfeld, many of which are suitable for glazing with your prescription. Plus we have a large basic range suitable for most prescriptions.

For those of you that like your classic styling, Maui Jim is a class above; and if you're looking for sportswear, including wraps, Bollé is the top performer.

Once you have made your choice our optician will be able to fit your sunglasses for you so that you will find them comfortable and they will not slip.

Your prescription

If you're looking for prescription sunglasses Carl Zeiss Skylet lenses and Nupolar polarised lenses are available in most prescriptions, including bifocals and varifocals - and these tints even come in new thinner materials to keep high prescriptions light and thin.

If you are looking for superb classic sunglasses with the most technologically advanced lenses Maui Jim sunglasses will be your preference. If you are looking for sports shades Bollé sportswear, including wrap-a-round styles will be your choice. Both Maui Jim and Bolle sunglasses are available in low prescriptions including varifocals.

Which Tint Colour?

Our specialised tints are all designed to reduce glare, improve contrast, and make colours stay natural looking - and are available mainly in greys, browns, and greens, with or without prescriptions.

Don't just choose the tint colour that looks great in the frame of your choice. Look at "the world" through different tints before you decide which to order. Many people have a strong preference for a particular tint colour.

If you have a particular eye condition ask our optician for specific advice.

What are you using your sunglasses for?

There are tints for all light conditions or sports - here is a selection:

For example, water-sport activities need polarising lenses to cut out reflected light from water, or if you play golf a tint that makes a ball more visible against any background or light condition will enhance your performance.

We can match you with your perfect pair of sunglasses, whether it's for driving, sailing, golf, cycling or skiing!
